My Thoughts:
What I Loved: The story told through the diary of Marie Antoinette gave an amazing perspective to her life and experiences.
How I Felt: I feel like she gets such a bad rap with the whole “Let them eat cake” thing, which she never actually said BTW. This book really did put a life to her that made me feel like I understood her better.
To Read Or Not To Read: If you are a fan of historical fiction, this one is perfect for you!⠀Carolly Erickson has done a great job of opening a window into Marie Antoinette’s life. This work of historical fiction weaves well-documented people involved in Marie’s life along with completely fictional ones making a great story.
What’s This Book About Anyway?
Marie Antoinette has left her diary in her prison cell, starting with her early childhood and taking us through her life. There is a love affair with Count Axel Ferson, joy at motherhood and the terror of the French Revolution. This book captures the fears and private thoughts of a Queen in a lose-lose situation.⠀
