Little Free Libraries – A Secret We Should Share

One of the many Little Free Libraries near my house!! Photo by me, @shejustlovesbooks

I recently realized that there are Little Free Libraries everywhere! I remember years ago when we lived in another state, that there was one near my house and I would use it often. We then moved to a new house, in a new state, had different jobs, and just worked to settle in. And I forgot about Little Free Libraries.

Then, I started my Instagram “Bookstagram” account and started seeing posts every once in a while for these. So, I did a quick Google search, and found a fabulous site to direct you to Little Free Libraries near you!

https://littlefreelibrary.org Make sure to check it out! The map they have just lets you put your town in the search and LOOK at all of these!

What’s A Little Free Library Anyway?

A Little Free Library is little “house” built near a sidewalk to offer a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange for anyone. They are built in many different designs, shapes, sizes, but overall, they are a little house for books. You bring a book or books to the Little Free Library, and leave it behind, taking a new book home. It is such an amazing concept and it’s quite fun.

There’s an excitement and anticipation in going to one…what will be there? Any best sellers, maybe that ONE book I’ve been so wanting to read.

My last stop at one was just a few days ago, and The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn was in there, the hardback edition. I however, just bought this book, so that was left for the next lucky person, but I grabbed two books, one based on the cover alone, and the other by an author I know I like.

My kids get really excited to visit these as well. We gather a few books and hit 2-3 of them. There’s always more adult books, than kid’s books in the ones near us, so we always make sure to leave a few kid’s books, even if we don’t take anything. When we go back again, those books are usually gone, so I feel like someone is enjoying them, which is nice.

So, after all this rambling about my love of a Little Free Library, my big ask is that you check out the Little Free Library site and see if there are any near you!

Do you use or run a Little Free Library? I would love to hear about it!
