What You Did by Claire McGowan

Rating: 3 out of 5.

My Thoughts:

What I Loved: The story had two mysteries being revealed and solved; one was in the current time, and one had happened years ago during college.

How I Felt: This book was good, it just wasn’t as great as some of Claire McGowan’s other work. I enjoyed the story, I just didn’t get attached to any of them they way I wanted. I felt like some of the character’s reactions to situations were completely different than I would have expected. There were some situations that I felt came out of no where, and I was still trying to figure out what happened, and then we had moved on. Overall, I felt there were some scenes that could have been left out, and the story would have been just as good.

To Read or Not To Read: If you enjoy Claire McGowan, you’ll enjoy this book. If you like mystery, it’s got two mysteries to solve. I did not feel that it was suspenseful the way it was meant to be. I didn’t feel that I was on the edge of my seat at any time, I was just interested in the outcome during the entire book.

What’s This Book About Anyway?

A group of friends gather at the home of Ali and Mike to enjoy some food and fun, and a bit too much of the adult beverages. Late into the first night though, a rape has happened to Karen, one of the friends and she is accusing Mike, Ali’s husband. Everything in Ali’s life shifts. She has a job as a rape-victim advocate, and yet how does she not stand behind her husband? She is torn and terrified and does not know what to do next.

As the pieces begin to fit together about that night, questions begin to rise regarding a murder during their last dance at university. Where were each of the friends and is anyone’s memory not what it should be?
