Big Bird’s Big Bad Day by Craig Manning

A Story about Turning Frowns Upside Down

Rating: 5 out of 5.

My Thoughts:

What I Loved: This book focused on children’s feelings of sadness and how they can cope with those feelings. The rhyming in the book was perfect, I didn’t stumble over it at any point.

How I Felt: The plot didn’t have terrible things happening to Big Bird to make his day bad, just the normal kind of issues that make any child feel sad. He loses his teddy bear, a visit he was looking forward to is canceled, etc. This made it so easy to relate to for my child. The way Big Bird gets out of his sadness was a perfect solution for a child. We talk to someone!

To Read or Not To Read: Perfect for a toddler through early elementary ages! The story is easy to understand with pictures to help. A great book on handling feelings.

What’s This Book About Anyway?

Big Bird is having a bad day. His teddy has gone missing, he spills in his nest, his family cannot visit; all leading to feelings of sadness. He doesn’t know what to do to feel better, but a friend comes along and gives him just the right advice to help.
