My Thoughts:
What I Loved: This book made me giggle. I love being able to read with my child and laugh at things that I genuinely find funny. My child was able to laugh at these things too, they were perfect for both of us.
How I Felt: I really liked how this book easily connected with a young reader. The situations Cassandra is facing mirror situations young children face. Morah, her imaginary friend gave Cassandra a way to recognize her own feelings, but I felt that it helped to make it very clear to my daughter. Cassandra would feel confused or unsure of why something was happening and Morah could kind of explain it to Cassandra in a way that made so much sense to a six-year old.
To Read or Not To Read: This is a small chapter book that is good for an assisted read for a first-grade+ reader and would make a good individual read for a 2nd grade+ reader. The topics discussed in the book are perfect for young readers and I would recommend it to anyone.
What’s This Book About Anyway?
Cassandra has an Imaginary friend, Morah. Morah stays in the house all day, and waits for Cassandra to get home from school. They usually get along very well, but lately, Morah has been getting on Cassandra’s nerves. Then, Cassandra mentions to Morah that her mom is going to have a baby, and Morah points out all the reasons this is a bad thing. Together, they come up with wild ways to make her mother realize that having the baby would be a bad idea. The ideas, of course, do not pan out for the two, and you’ll have to read the book to find out how they make this situation right!
