Knock Knock, Lettuce In! by Brenda Ponnay – A Joke Book Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

What I Loved:

Knock Knock, Lettuce In! was such a fun book to read! I loved that the jokes were easy to giggle at. The illustrations were funny and matched the joke perfectly. I was so happy to be able to sit down and read this silly jokes book with my kids.

How I Felt:

Knock, Knock jokes are, by far, my children’s favorite type of joke. My son has some pretty good ones that really do make us laugh. My daughter tends to make them up and they make absolutely NO sense, but we laugh all the same. So, when the opportunity came up for me to review this book, I knew it was a good one for my family!

The Layout: There is a different Knock Knock joke on each page with the question on the top of the page and the answer on the bottom. The jokes are all surrounding a vegetable of some kind, keeping with the “Lettuce In” concept. What an adorable title, by the way!

The Jokes: There were some jokes that I found went right over my 6 year old’s head. I found that this was partly because she didn’t know that vegetable…I guess we maybe need to branch out from broccoli a bit more, however, some of the jokes may have also been a bit old for her. I have an example of this on the left. She didn’t know what the word “stalking” meant so it wasn’t funny to her. My son, who is 8, got every joke in the book, so I would suggest that, while this was fun for the whole family to read, a child that is more in a middle-elementary grade may enjoy this book just a bit more.

The Illustrations were really adorable. They gave life to the vegetables and matched the jokes really well. The entire family enjoyed looking at these from page to page.

Overall, Knock Knock, Lettuce In! was a cute joke book that young children will enjoy. Even if your child doesn’t get every joke, they will enjoy the illustrations on each page!

To Read or Not To Read:

I would recommend Knock Knock, Lettuce In! for a young reader that enjoys jokes. This is a fun book to have at home, but a preschool would enjoy having this on their shelves as well!
