The Super Life of Ben Braver by Marcus Emerson

How I Felt:

The Super Life of Ben Braver was a great book that was filled with escapades, potty-humor, and everything else a middle-grade reader is looking for. The story is told mostly through traditional paragraph writing-style, however, it mixes in some great artwork and graphic-novel moments.

Overall, The Super Life of Ben Braver is an exciting adventure for young readers. With special super-hero powers, fantasy, friendship, and a mission to save the day, it is a great book!

The Plot: Ben Braver is an ordinary kid. All he wants to do is finish his summer watching awesome TV shows and eating his favorite candy. But when some kid screams for help, Ben, like his favorite comic book heroes, tries to save the day. Let’s just say it ends badly. But it does lead him to a secret school where kids with super abilities learn to control their powers. Ben’s never had any powers—and never thought he could be special. So when he’s offered a spot at the school, Ben realizes this is his chance to become the superhero he’s always dreamed of. Packed with black-and-white art and comic strips throughout.

Ben Braver and the Incredible Exploding Kid by Marcus Emerson

How I Felt:

Ben Braver and the Incredible Exploding Kid was such a fun story! I really enjoyed that Ben struggled with his secret of not having abilities in this book. I thought it added a good struggling story-line for Ben. I did think that Ben got a bit irritating for a while in this story, however, I think that a young reader would look right over this and it wouldn’t affect the story for them.

This book really delves into the school and I enjoyed learning all about it. It offered a ton of new information and helped to build the world the story lives in. It kept me extremely interested and made me really excited for book 3!

Overall, Ben Braver and the Incredible Exploding Kid was a great second edition to this series. His adventures are fun, and the story created a great fantasy world. There are some adorable characters to enjoy and that humor that makes these books so fun!

The Plot: Even though Ben Braver saved Kepler Academy from total destruction last year, he knows he still doesn’t fit in at his secret middle school for kids with special abilities. Ben’s been hiding his lack of super skills, but it’s getting harder as his classmates’ powers are getting stronger.

Will Ben be able to power up before his enemies at school take him down? And will he risk everything to become the ultimate superhero?

Ben Braver and the Vortex of Doom by Marcus Emerson

How I Felt:

Ben Braver and the Vortex of Doom was absolutely my favorite in this series! It felt fast-paced and exciting. The super bad guys were great villains and created a wonderful sense of danger. Ben’s story is filled with hilarious moments as well as nail-biting scenes. There is a bit of time-travel in this book, which just added to the overall fun of this story!

Overall, Ben Braver and the Vortex of Doom was filled with funny scenes, excellent artwork, and a great plot. This was my favorite of the series and I highly recommend it for readers that enjoy books like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Diary of a Sixth Grade Ninja.

The Plot: An ordinary kid like Ben Braver is no match for a band of super villains, but he may be humanity’s only hope in Marcus Emerson’s Ben Braver and the Vortex of Doom.

The world will never be the same . . .

When the baddest of bad guys threatens the world with a giant black hole, Ben Braver is the only one who can stop it. Ready or not, he’s about to learn what it really means to be a hero.
