This Eternity of Masks and Shadows by Karsten Knight

Welcome to the This Eternity of Masks and Shadows blog tour
hosted by RockStar Book Tours!

Rating: 3 out of 5.

What I Loved:

This Eternity of Masks and Shadows had this fabulous mix of mythology creatures and stories that made the overall-fantasy of this book so exciting! I really enjoyed that this was all layered into a murder mystery! It was an interesting story and a good read!

How I Felt:

This story’s world has humans and gods walking around together, living life side-by-side. I loved the research that the author so obviously put into the mythological creatures as he built this story. I found that the references and descriptions fit into the plot really well.

The pace for This Eternity of Masks and Shadows was probably too fast. I would have enjoyed this a bit more with a few additional breaks in the action to build the world a bit more, and focus on the character building. It was, however, FILLED with action. There was a lot going on, and it led to a very fast-paced, quick read. Readers that enjoy action-packed stories are going to love this one!

The characters were very interesting, and I enjoyed the wide range that filled the pages. I would have liked a bit more focus on building the characters, as I felt that some were lacking some depth, but all-around, there were some characters! I really liked the detective polar bear, Nook. I thought he had some wonderful emotional struggles mixed with great detective work.

The main character, Cairn, is an 18-year-old girl investigating the death of her mother. I liked this character, and really enjoyed her relationship with her girlfriend Delaphine. I liked that this relationship felt real, and flowed very naturally through the story.

Overall, this was a fun, interesting fantasy. I really enjoyed the murder mystery of Cairn’s mother. I enjoyed the various characters and the world they lived in!

To Read or Not To Read:

I would recommend This Eternity of Masks and Shadows for readers that enjoy a fantasy with a strong female lead and a murder mystery!

In a city of gods and mortals, secrets never die.

The gods walk among us. Some lurk in the shadows, masquerading as mortals; others embrace their celebrity status, launching careers from Hollywood to Capitol Hill.

One of them just murdered Cairn Delacroix’s mother.

As Cairn sifts through the rubble, she uncovers a conspiracy two decades in the making: a cursed island, the fellowship of gods who journeyed there, and the unspeakable act that intertwined their fates. One by one, the members of that voyage are dying, and Cairn’s investigations land her in the crosshairs of the rogue goddess responsible.

With the help of Nanook, a polar bear god turned detective, Cairn descends into Boston’s underworld of supernatural crime and political aspiration. To avenge her mother and unmask her assassin, she’ll first have to reckon with a gut-wrenching secret that will rewrite the life she thought she knew.
