Doors Of Gold And Rust by A.N. Willis

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I LOVE a second book in a series that stands up to the first! Doors Of Gold And Rust was just as wonderful as the first book! I liked that this story still had the same characters we already know, and involved the same house, but there are a whole lot of NEW mysteries to uncover. It was exciting, and I enjoyed it!

The story picks up just four months after the resolution of the last story, and we find Evelyn has befriended Jake, and Alex is a bit estranged as he’s living with his mom out of town. Evelyn receives a letter that sparks the return of Alex and the eventual discovery of a long-hidden murder on the Byrne House grounds.

A.N. Willis writes with a beautiful storytelling quality that makes the reader melt into the pages. I truly escape this world and become part of her story when I’m reading. I was excited to find that this new mystery in the Byrne House was just as exciting and dangerous as in the previous book. I didn’t want the story to end, and found myself reading every moment possible!

Alex and Evelyn’s characters have a lot of struggles throughout this book. These were not my favorite parts of the story. I thought a little honestly between the two could have gone a long way. I will say though, I liked that we moved passed confrontations quickly.

Overall, I loved this book! It’s a wonderful extension of the characters and the story from book 1. The mixture of mystery, paranormal, romance, and enemies melded into this perfect book!

To Read or Not To Read:

I would recommend Doors Of Gold And Rust by A.N. Willis to readers that enjoy some magical elements in a ya thriller!

I would recommend reading the first book in this series, Under Glass and Stone before starting the second book. You can find my review here!

It’s been four months since Evelyn Ashwood escaped from the tunnels beneath Byrne House, and nothing about her life is the same. Alex Evans still hasn’t returned to Castle Heights. She’s spending more time with Jake—her former enemy—whose macabre sense of humor conceals a darker affliction. And she’s plagued by disturbing visions of the past that she cannot control, much less explain.

When Evelyn is forced to return to Byrne House, she discovers another murder in the mansion’s history. The victim is someone with close ties to her family, someone who supposedly left Castle Heights years ago. As Evelyn tries to uncover what really happened, she must face not only her family’s true history, but the darkest truth about Byrne House itself. Because the mansion hasn’t yet given up all of its secrets…In a long-forgotten room underground, something lies in wait. All Evelyn has to do is open the door.
