This was such an exciting start to a new series! I loved the characters, the setting, the atmosphere, and the world!

The story follows Raelle, a girl without an origin story. She washed up on the shores of the West with no memory, and King Wren found her, and brought her into the folds of his family. For 10 years, Raelle felt completely at home and loved, except for the queen. The queen had never accepted Raelle, and on her birthday, the queen secretly betroths Raelle to King Veras of the North.

The story has pretty fast pacing, and I found myself not wanting to put the book down. I had the audio and the physical copy, and I ended up alternating between the two so I could keep reading!

I enjoyed the secrets about the kingdom that was broken into parts, and about Raelle’s memory loss. As her memory comes back, it created such interesting pieces for the story. The characters were fantastic. They had great personalities, and I loved getting to know them!

Overall, I loved this one! I would highly recommend it for readers that enjoy YA royal fantasy!

This YA fantasy novel asks the readers important coming of age questions, captures the attention with witty dialogue, relatable characters, and a world that is reawakening its forgotten magic. The readers will be entranced and hungry for more (and perhaps a piece of chocolate cake).
