The Unplanned Life of Josie Hale by Stephanie Eding

White library with lots of stairs and "Contemporary" text
Book Genre Tag "Romance": A couple kissing

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Well, I just loved this adorable book! The characters are so fantastic, and they just steal the show!

Josie is a wonderful person, and she’s been crapped on a bit with life, but when she bumps into two friends from high school, her life takes on a new trajectory. Pregnant, getting divorced, and being nudged out of her parents’ house, an offer to move in with Ben and Kevin. These two goofballs make life so fun. I loved having them in the story. They are well-meaning, big hearted, and loving friends, and watching their relationship with Josie grow was wonderful.

This book was absolutely adorable! I really loved the focus on accepting what makes you special and seeing what is special about others! Children will enjoy the fun way this message is told through Zippy and his animal friends!

Zippy is a zebra that doesn’t like her stripes! As we journey with her through the book though, we learn that her stripes make her special, and that we each have something that makes us special too. This was a book that both of my kids were really interested in. They enjoyed learning about what made each of Zippy’s friends unique!

Allergic by Megan Wagner Lloyd

Book Genre Block - "Middle Grade"

Rating: 5 out of 5.

As a child, I had allergies to every kind of animal, so my heart went out to Maggie in this book! It’s hard to be a kid and not be able to get a pet when you want one so bad!

I really enjoyed that this story hits on multiple situations that young readers deal with in every day life. There is friendship and fights, new siblings, and of course, our pet drama and allergies. In graphic novel format, this story flew by! This was a well-written, wonderful book, and readers will really connect with Maggie and her story!

Cow Boy Is Not a Cowboy by Gregory Barrington

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Friendship can come from the most unexpected places. Any children’s book that helps kids be accepting of others is a five-star in my mind!

Goat Girl lives on a boring, mundane farm where everything is extremely ordinary. Goat Girl is NOT ordinary. She likes adventure and trying new things. When she runs into Merle, she thinks he’s a cowboy because he’s a COW and a BOY. Merle, however, does not want to be called a cowboy. Goat Girl refuses to give up on pulling Merle out of his shell, and the two of them become quite the adorable pair.
