Luck and Last Resorts by Sarah Grunder Ruiz

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Luck and Last Resorts is the second book in the series Love, Lists & Fancy Ships, which, of course, I didn’t know when I read it 🤦‍♀️ On the plus side, this can absolutely be read as a standalone, but I loved it so much, I’m definitely going back to read the first book!

This is a second chance romance told through present day and flashbacks where we learn about the various statuses of Nina and Ollie’s relationships. We get to flashback to when they first met, and to see how their love blossomed (and wilted).

I just loved this story. It’s a wonderful mix of romance, grief, ghosts of the past, and ghosts of the present.

Florence is a ghost writer for an extremely popular romance author, and very few people know. When a new editor arrives to meet with Florence, they don’t start off on the best foot. After a terrible meeting, and then a terrible night at the bar, she finds out her father has passed away and heads home. Where she finds a ghost, but it’s not the ghost of her dad…

This was an adorable enemies-to-lovers story featuring another wonderful STEM female. Bee is a neuroscientist who is awarded the opportunity to partner with NASA on a new project. Her excitement quickly wanes when she realizes that her co-lead is someone who hated her all through school.

There were some mysterious things happening on this project, and I really enjoyed that little bit of wondering that the mystery provided. It was fun to try to figure out what was happening.

American Royals III: Rivals by Katharine McGee

Book Genre Block - "Young Adult" with 4 young adults
Book genre block - "Royalty" two small crowns

Rating: 4 out of 5.

When I read American Royals, I fell in love with this alternate United States world. I loved the characters, the family, and the problems. I, of course, gobbled up book 2, Majesty, when it came out, and THEN, book 3 came out, and I was ecstatic!

This book was such a growing point for so many characters. Like the other books, the story is told through a variety of POVs. I enjoyed each of them and found myself particularly interested in the growing friendship between Nina and Daphne. Daphne is one of my least favorite characters in this series, and I almost found myself liking her in this book.

There are these sisters, and they each have their own hopes and dreams. When their family’s way of life is threatened though, they are willing to risk their future to race to find love in 30 days.

This story is such an adorable small-town clean romance. I love that Nell sets her sights on Grant, a man she’s always loved. The two don’t have the same things in common, which creates those silly moments I enjoyed!

Strong Female Character 💕 Fake Relationship 💕 Emotional 💕 Adorable

I loved, loved, loved this book! It had me laughing, it had moments filled with tearful emotion, and it had a cast of characters I wanted to be friends with!

Hannah Brooks is a kick-ass woman. I absolutely loved her as the MC. She’s a trained bodyguard, but as she’ll let you know, if she has to use any of that kick-assery…she’s already failed at her job. Her role is to identify the issue before it’s an issue. When she’s assigned to Jack Stapleton, a super famous movie star, things don’t go quite as she planned. She ends up having to pretend to be Jack’s girlfriend to protect his family from knowing he needs a bodyguard.

This was an absolutely fantastic book! It had historical fiction, murder-mystery, secret identity, and romance, and I was unable to put it down!

Una is the main character, and she’s a thief on the NYC streets. After losing her mom in a fire, and losing her dad to drugs, she ends up on her own on the streets. She’s an excellent thief. She has rules for herself, and she follows them to keep herself safe. Then, one night when she witnesses a murder, and is framed for it. On the run with a need to go into hiding, she gets admitted to a probationary class for a nursing school.

Second Chance Romance. Sassy Female Lead. Road Trip. Friends to Lovers.

Dee Matthews is a sassy, successful podcaster with a sad, broken heart from a high school sweetheart, Ben. When Ben shows up on Dee’s doorstep asking her to make good on a 10-year-old promise to road trip from Illinois to Colorado, Dee says yes.

I really enjoyed both Dee and Ben’s characters, personalities and emotional journeys. They have such a long and meaningful history with each other, and the road trip gives them such a wonderful opportunity to work through it all.

So, once again, I’ve read the second book in a series before reading the first. This is what happens when I don’t read a synopsis before I start a book…I’m a cover-lover. BUT…this was a lovely story, and I didn’t need to have read book 1, so that worked out well 😊!

London Spark and her two sisters own Spark House, a hotel that hosts fantastic events. After breaking up with her boyfriend, her sisters and her head out for some drinks. When a smooth-talking, sexy man hits on her, she hands back his number, but Jackson Holt is not to be deterred and tells her basically, if it’s meant to be, the universe will bring them back together…

And of course, it does.

I just really loved this one! I was absolutely rooting for Lillie the whole way. I was fully invested in her life!

Lillie has just sent her son off to college and settle into the next chapter in her life when her husband blindsides her with a divorce. And she’s pissed off.

Thank You, Next by Andie J. Christopher

I’m a bit torn on this one. I liked the premise of a woman reaching out to her exes to understand why they moved into a committed relationship directly after the loose one with her. Alex is a woman who doesn’t want a marriage or children. She’s clearly got some emotional connection issues, and we are set up for a journey of self-discovery.

The pacing of this one was an issue for me. I was interested at the beginning, and the middle, and the end. BUT, it kept slowing down and going into these inner thoughts and self-conversations, and I just kept losing interest.
