Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney

Person peeking through hole titled "Thriller"
"Mystery" Genre card with dark woods and light in the distance

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I just love a locked-in thriller! This one blended so many things that I love. Some of them I’ll tell you all about, but some I’m gonna leave you hanging on…can’t have spoilers 😊!

So, Daisy Darker has a bit of a wackado family, and they don’t really spend time together. Except for Nana’s birthday each year. This year, Nana is hitting the big 8-0, and she just knows it’s going to be her last birthday. Everyone in the family smells the inheritance possibilities, so they all come.

But now they are all trapped until the tide changes, and people start dying…

This story is, of course, a nod to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None, so there aren’t any surprises there. The real surprises, for me were around the hows, the whys, and the wheres. I loved the way the story revealed details about each member of the family, keeping me hanging on the details all the way up until the last moments.

This was one that I didn’t want to put down. The characters are intriguing. There’s a wide variety of personalities, and you just don’t know who to trust. Then there’s the twists. I loved the things I saw coming, and the many that I didn’t. Alice Feeney has created a unique twist on a classic!

I listened to the audio of this one, and I would highly recommend it. The narration was fantastic!

The New York Times bestselling Queen of Twists returns…with a family reunion that leads to murder.

After years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in Nana’s crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island. Finally back together one last time, when the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours.

The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets. Then at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead. And an hour later, the next family member follows…

Trapped on an island where someone is killing them one by one, the Darkers must reckon with their present mystery as well as their past secrets, before the tide comes in and all is revealed.

With a wicked wink to Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were NoneDaisy Darker’s unforgettable twists will leave readers reeling.
